So the boat returned on Friday – Jay being the man that he is – flew out that afternoon and actually performed that night in NYC. Ralph – being somewhat more tender, stayed in Miami to see his mommy until Sunday – and now we are ready to recap what happened on this boat! First of all it could not have gone better! In fact – there was some debate as to whether or not this was going to be an annual thing – and after the first day – I (ralph) spoke to the organizer of the entire shin-dig and he said ‘ya know what, I wasn’t sure but after last night – I can already tell you we are going to do this again!’ Which was music to my ears. Due to the fact that all the bands were either from the same era or were influenced by the bands that were the headliners – and all had a common influence overall (pretty much everyone we asked about their first R (rock experience) said KISS! So the bands meshed very well – in the jams, around the boat, etc. They all knew each other, and respected each other – so it felt very communal.
Plus – boy can these rock n roller’s drink! I heard we now have the record of the one day alcohol consumption for carnival cruise ships. If that doesn’t set the mood for what these upcoming SDR shows will be like – nothing will. Well, perhaps THIS VIDEO will. This was about 3:30am right outside where we were taping the SDR show. I honestly can’t say enough nice things about the entire crew that has been put together via Ask4Ent, Whet, the photographers, videographers, etc – everyone involved is just top notch. Alan, Al, Danny, I could list 50 people here. but basically – if you were on the boat in a working capacity – my hats off to you. And if you were on the boat as a motorboater – who came to rock out – – – GREAT JOB! This was A LOT of fun.
Now – the SDR shows themselves were a blast – We were scheduled to tape on the first 3 nights. I won’t spoil it now by saying who comes on the show – but each show was great – and it was also great to watch people come to see every show. The major issue is – that the first show’s audio is pretty rough. I was debating if we should use it or not – but I’ve decided for the betterment of rock n roll – we should just use it. I promise the 2nd and 3rd shows are way better.
Jay and I hosted a lot of events on the boat as well from bringing up all the bands, to the belly flop contest – the hilarious Game of Foams (where I donned a giant red inflatable sumo outfit), to the rock n roll karaoke – it was all a blast. There were theme nights every night – one of which was the pajama night – and my KISS onesee was a huge hit! I had not only motorboaters but band guys running up to me asking where the hell I got it!… Speaking of which – all the bands we were able to see sounded amazing – and the best part is – we get to do this all over again in Feb for SHIPROCKED!
